Motorola MotoTRBO Beginners Guide

Software

Software is available via Motorola for a price of $0.00 You will need to create
an account with them which you can do by calling parts id at 1-800‑422‑4210 Theyll ask you some questions and it will go into a queue and within a 2-3 days you'll
get an email from them welcoming them to your platform.

The part number for the MotoTRBO CPS is: HKVN4362A You will end up with an available
download of the current 2.x CPS and a download for 16.0 build 828 (which i
greatly prefer over 2.x CPS)

Things you need before you program the radio

  1. Radio ID from radioid.net (its totally free!) You will need to upload an offical
    copy of your amatuer radio license from your country's licensing body (example USA and FCC)
  2. Programming cable see here: mobile or portable
  3. MotoTRBO CPS software

Reading the radio

Click the read button in the toolbar in CPS

Things youll need ot change to get on DMR

  1. Radio ID (this is very important)
    This is located at: General Settings

  2. Radio name
    This is also in general settings, I usually set it too Car XPR5550 or the like. Radio ID setting

  3. Add your contacts (private calls/talkgroups) Contacts

Adding Calls

Add Group Call

Right click on Digital under contacts and pick Add > Group Call left click on Call1 (default name)

Add Contact

Enter in your talkgroup id (example 91 for brandmeister worldwide talkgroup)
right click on call one in the tree on the left side and select rename (I use the format
of BM for brandmeister - tg name like this BM - WW)

Add Private Call

Private contact, left click on the private call (note: it has a single person on it vs multiple for a TG)
enter in your private call address (example 9990 for brandmeister echo test) Add Private Contact

Add RX Group List

right click on RX Group list > digital > select Add RX Group

I always name the group the same as the contact name, (eg BM - WW) once you've
added that youll need to add the Contact into the group list, select the one you
want to add and hit the Add >> button.

Add a Digital repeater

Find a local DMR Repeater here!

scroll down to channel List

right click on channels and select Add Zone

right click to rename your zone to your desired name

Configuring TX/RX

A few things to note:

Under timeslot you need to enter what is listed for the talkgroup on your local dmr
repeater if you do not do this it will not accept you trying to talk to the repeater
and brandmeister etc Under color code enter the color code of the repeater you wish to use under RX enter the receive frequency (example 147.24 MHz)
Tip: You can enter the offset which is either -.600KHz or +.600KHz for a repeater
and click the button copy and it will automatically do the split for you. Please
note you will need to set the offset in the box between the TX and RX Windows
and enter +.600lhz or -.600khz to set the offset up or down.
Make sure you pick under Admit Criteria: Color Code Free & In Call Criteria follow Admit Criteria
Make sure you also select "IP Site Connect" for all brandmeister/tgif etc talkgroups

Add an Analog repeater

Find a local Analog Repeater here!

Add Analog Channel
Add Analog Channel 1
Add Analog Channel 2

A few things to note:

Make sure you select the channel bandwidth of 25KHz
Under RX enter the receive frequency (example 147.24 MHz) Under TX Frequency enter the Transmit Frequency example(147.84 MHz)
Tip: You can enter the offset which is either -.600KHz or +.600KHz for a repeater
and click the button copy and it will automatically do the split for you. Please
note you will need to set the offset in the box between the TX and RX Windows
and enter +.600KHz or -.600KHz to set the offset up or down.

Write the Radio

Lastly you will need to write the radio by clicking the Write button in CPS
